Author’s Note: Lost River and Other Stories was the first collection of 16 short stories to be put together hurriedly for publication. It was a pot-pourri, consisting of tales set in diverse locations and without any unifying theme. All these stories have since been reclassified and incorporated into subsequent collections. Hence only the lead story, Lost River, is retained for downloading here.
The comments set out below relate to the original collection and are reproduced here just for the record.
“A collection of entertaining and thought-provoking tales which add up to the most book-buyers are looking for – a good read.” Bill Cranfield
“These poignant stories provide literary oxygen in the world of stifling cultural parochialism.” David Watmough, Canadian novelist, playwright and short story writer.
“Wong has a sharp eye, a light sense of irony and, above all, a deep knowledge of what dividers and connects East and West.” Derek Davis, Editor-in-Chief of Discovery magazine.
“I have enjoyed reading these stories very much indeed…..Always there is a crisis of sensibility that leads to what Sean O’Faolain called a ‘pont of illumination’ or to the verge of one.” Wilfred Stone, Professor of English Stanford University.
